Bad news for the summer party calendar. The organizers of the Love Parade in Berlin have cancelled this year’s event, which was planned for July 7. The city’s senate had not given the parade the written approval that they needed. As a result, Love Parade CEO Rainer Schaller said that they simply did not have necessary assurance to go head with the planning.

The Loveparade, an annual procession that attracts over a million people to party to electronic music on the streets of Berlin, had already been cancelled in 2004 and 2005 due to financial problems.

Last year the Parade made a comeback, launched under the Motto, “The Love is Back”. That motto rang hollow on February 21, when Schaller held a press conference to announce that the event would not take place. He announced that he would be open to bids from other cities, to find “another European metropolis able and willing to host a new Loveparade.”
